Encinitas Coastal Connections

Encinitas, CA Community

Encinitas is preparing for a bright holiday season in 2025! Two notable events are scheduled, offering enjoyment, a sense of togetherness, and local character. From busy street markets to heartfelt tree illuminations, there are activities for everyone as the festive atmosphere arrives in our coastal community. Prepare to discover, shop, and celebrate with your neighbors and friends.

The Encinitas Holiday Street Fair, a long-standing event, will transform the downtown area into a lively marketplace. Since 1984, the Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association has organized this event, filling the Coast Highway with over 450 vendors selling a variety of items, including handmade goods, art, and food. It provides an excellent chance to find unique gifts and support local craftspeople, all while experiencing a festive mood with live music on four stages, children’s activities, and a beverage garden.

This year’s Holiday Street Fair is expected to be another memorable occasion, strengthening community bonds and supporting local businesses. Picture yourself walking under illuminated lights, examining displays of handcrafted jewelry, art, and seasonal decorations, and finding distinctive items for your holiday gift list. The event aims to create a warm, winter atmosphere, encouraging local businesses to participate by setting up stalls and presenting their holiday promotions. It is a celebration designed for families, friends, and anyone wishing to experience the joyful holiday spirit.

After the street fair, Encinitas will host a beloved tradition: the 31st annual Heritage Tree Lighting. Organized by the Encinitas Historical Society, this event will officially begin the city’s holiday period on Friday, December 5, 2025, starting at 4:00 PM in the upper Moonlight Beach parking lot. It serves as an ideal prelude to the Encinitas Holiday Parade, which takes place the following day. This gathering is more than just illuminating a tree; it is a community event featuring music, speakers, food, and an appearance by Santa Claus.

The focal point of the evening is the impressive Heritage Tree, a Norfolk Island pine planted in 1952 that now stands over 90 feet tall. Recognized as an official Heritage Tree by the City of Encinitas, it represents our town’s history and lasting spirit. The ceremony will conclude at 6:00 PM with children leading a countdown to the tree’s illumination, creating a touching moment for everyone present. This tradition, which started in 1994, continues with the support of dedicated volunteers and local groups like the Encinitas Historical Society, ensuring it remains a cherished event for future generations.

The Encinitas Historical Society depends on community contributions to maintain traditions such as the Heritage Tree Lighting. You can help by scanning a QR code for payment options, visiting their website, sending a check by mail, or visiting the Schoolhouse. Your contributions support the tree’s upkeep and the organization’s important work in preserving local history.
